About Sarah

Sarah Henken

I serve in Colombia with Presbyterian World Mission and the Presbyterian Church of Colombia promoting peace initiatives. I also coordinate the Colombia site of the fabulous Young Adult Volunteer program.

This blog is a place to share stories, experiences, and observations, both my own and those of friends and colleagues and the occasional item of news. For more on me and my position with World Mission, and an archive of my newsletters, visit my Mission Connections page. You can also download a digital copy of my prayer card.

I started this blog in in 2007 when I was U.S. coordinator of the Colombia Accompaniment Program. I became a full-time mission co-worker in 2010, and served from 2010-2016 as regional liaison for the Andean region of South America. In 2010-2013 I was based in beautiful La Paz, Bolivia, and relocated at the end of 2013 to Barranquilla, Colombia.

I’m a California girl by birth and often miss Chicago, where I spent three years getting my MDiv from McCormick Theological Seminary.  I am committed to nonviolence and being increasingly loving and socially responsible as ways to live out my faith. I love to sing and have good discussions–whether silly or serious. I’m a fan of:

trees
mutuality
ice cream
Spanglish
dancing
clean water
smiling
hugs
creativity
